At the beginning of 2023, I resuscitated Chronic Mastication, the food blog I started in 2010. I’ve been writing about food since the 1990’s, when fresh out of college I discovered the writing of M.F.K Fisher and Elizabeth David. In the late ‘90’s I wrote restaurant reviews and the occasional love letter to mayonnaise in Portland’s Willamette Week. I have always been ahead or behind the curve when it came to food writing: creating a scripted supernatural comedy/show for public access television in a pre-internet 1994, and returning to meditations on food well after “foodieism” has permeated every platform and facet of culture. Recently, I retired the moniker Chronic Mastication, and re-christened the blog My Only Complaint, to explore more than what we put in our mouths, though I don’t think I’ll ever be able stop writing about food.
In addition to My Only Complaint, you can find my writing in Portland’s Kitchen Table Magazine , and Nailed Magazine
